HBT Communications is one of Coventry’s longest established Telecoms and IT Providers. Established in 1988 by brothers Zamurad and Ajmal Hussain, the business has grown to employ over 30 people with ambitious plans for further growth over the next 3 years.

Zamurad Hussain, MD at HBT Communications explains how the business began, “My fascination with improving how businesses communicate began when I started work in 1981 as an apprentice at GEC, assisting with the development of new telephone technology. I worked in the Telecoms industry for 5 years, both in the UK and overseas seizing every opportunity to learn new skills and build up my knowledge and expertise. The privatisation of BT and the opening up of the UK Telecoms market in the mid 1980’s provided me with the perfect platform to follow my dream of running my own business. Joining forces with my brother Ajmal, HB Telecom was born, and we haven’t looked back since. Our mission in 1988 remains the same today; to put our customers at the heart of everything we do.”

The early 2000’s saw the explosion of the World Wide Web. The way businesses communicated was changing and HBT was keen to play a part in this Internet Revolution.
Zamurad says, “As internet connectivity improved, Telecoms and IT began to merge when the ability to use the internet to make phone calls through VOIP was introduced. In 2005 we added IT services to our portfolio, extending the services we provide and making it easier for our customers by giving them one point of contact for all their communication needs”.

HBT works with a wide range of partners which includes all the major networks and equipment suppliers and over the years has been acknowledged as experts in their field; becoming a Gold Partner with Swyx and winning Swyx’s TOP International Partner Award in 2016, being a Premium Partner with Panasonic and a Silver Certified Partner with Microsoft. Its most recent partnership is with KnowBe4, an innovative training platform to raise staff awareness on potential cyber security threats.

Zamurad continues, “We opted to remain independent, building relationships with all the top providers. This means we are not restricted to one solution and can provide impartial advice to our customers, designing communication solutions tailored to their exact needs. We thrive on the diversity of our clients and the challenge of improving how they do business. We work with SME’s of all shapes and sizes. One of our recent projects was for a Coventry manufacturer who has been in business for 150 years. We worked with them on future proofing their business with improved connectivity, a new telephone system and a security package. Helping them to remain in business for another 150 years!”

Alongside looking after its customers, HBT supports many charity and community initiatives both in the UK and internationally, which includes Zoe’s Place, Myton Hospice, Finham Park School . Zamurad was instrumental in founding the Minhas Charitable Trust which supports education and fresh water projects in Pakistan.
